Motorcyclists urge Govt to ban wire
rope barriers
The Victorian Government is being asked to honour an election promise
and ban the use of wire rope barriers on Victorian roads.
The Motorcycle Riders Association says the barriers are deadly for
motorcyclists.
The association says the Government promised to stop using them seven
years ago.
But member Damien Codognotto says wire rope barriers are still being
installed across the state.
"We know that there are five people dead at wire rope sites
already - I've got one of the coroner's reports in my hand,"
he said.
"The problem is, that the only adviser to the coroner is VicRoads
and the police, and so what we get is a one-page chamber's finding
rather than a proper in-depth look at what's killing these people."
