Police say brawl investigation 'wrapped
up'
Police said they have wrapped up the major part of a nationwide investigation
into a fight between between bike clubs on the Gold Coast following
the arrest of a Hells Angel member in Sydney.
Troy McKever Stewart, 33, was to be extradited to the Gold Coast
on Monday morning to face Southport Magistrates Court on an attempted
murder charge later that day.
Police allege he was one of up to three men from rival clubs who
fired shots among a crowd of 1600 at a kick-boxing event at Royal
Pines Resort on March 18.
Five people were shot or stabbed in the melee between the Hells Angels
and Finks.
Stewart and another man, an alleged club leader, were arrested about
3.30pm (AEST) yesterday in a car during a series of police drug raids
in Sydney that also netted one of New South Wales's most wanted fugitives,
Ramon Youmaran.
Police will allege they found 3.7g of amphetamine and a quantity
of cash in the men's possession.
Gold Coast police Detective Inspector John Hartwell today said: "This
basically finalises our major investigation."
Mr Stewart was the last alleged "key player" arrested out
of five bikers whom police believe were directly involved in wounding
five people at the kickboxing event.
Police allege Mr Stewart was responsible for shooting a Finks member.
Insp Hartwell said police would lay minor charges of affray once
they identified and tracked down the alleged offenders from interstate.
"There is a code of silence amongst the outlaw motorcycle clubs
and we've had no cooperation from them," Insp Hartwell said.
