Club fear kicks out fight night
A Gold Coast kickboxing promoter has been forced to host his next
show in Sydney amid fears the event could fuel another biker brawl.
Rising Promotions director Ray Matsu-mura, who hosted the X-Plosion
kickboxing event at Royal Pines that sparked a brawl between Hells
Angels and the Finks in March, will host his next event at the Sydney
Entertainment Centre on August 18.
He said the cost of police protection about $30,000 was too much
to host the event here.
The publicity surrounding the bloody brawl has already cost the Mermaid
Beach promoter $50,000 in sponsorship, with Japan Airlines and Asics
ditching the promoter.
More than 40 Finks stormed the kickboxing tournament attended by
the Hells Angels.
Five people were either shot or stabbed.
Last week, it was revealed the Hells Angels had allegedly issued
six Gold Coast clubs, including the Finks, with a written ultimatum,
telling them to 'leave town'.
Amid fears of another bloodbath at Mr Mat-sumura's 'family event'
he has vowed not to take any more chances.
Originally, he was to host an event last month at the Gold Coast
Convention and Exhibition Centre but after meeting with police, it
was postponed to August.
However, Mr Matsu-mura last week decided with the reported unrest
between bike clubs, to move the event to NSW.
